SABnzbd Setup Guide: Configure Your Usenet Client

 

To set up SABnzbd with your Usenet subscription, follow these steps to configure the client for optimal performance.​

 

Quick Start Guide

  1. Download and Install SABnzbd: Obtain the latest stable release of SABnzbd from the official website. During installation, adjust any directory settings as needed.​

  2. Launch the Quick Start Wizard: Upon first launch, the Quick Start Wizard will open in your default Web browser. Select your preferred language and click "Start Wizard"

 

 

 

  1. Enter Server Details: On the server setup screen, input the following information:​

    • Host: The hostname provided in your confirmation email.​
    • Username: Your assigned username.​
    • Password: Your assigned password.​
    • SSL: Toggle based on your preference for secure connections; this will automatically adjust the port number.​
    • Port: Automatically set based on SSL selection; modify if necessary.​
    • Connections: Enter the number of connections allowed, as specified in your confirmation email; if uncertain, start with 20.​
    • Certificate Verification: Set to "Strict" for enhanced security; switch to "Minimal" only if issues arise (applicable when SSL is enabled).​

 

  1. Test Server Connection: Click "Test Server" to verify the connection. A "Connection Successful!" message confirms proper setup. If errors occur, recheck your entries or contact our Support Team for assistance.

 


 

  1. Finalize Setup: Click "Next" to complete the configuration. The client is now ready for use. Default paths and the Web interface link will be displayed; click "Go to SABnzbd" to access the interface.

 

 

 

Adding an Additional Server

To integrate another Usenet service provider into SABnzbd:


 

  1. Access Settings: From the main SABnzbd interface, click the "Settings" icon at the top.​Newshosting

  2. Navigate to Servers: Select the "Servers" tab.​

 

 

  1. Add New Server: Click "Add Server" and fill in the following fields:​

    • Host: news.newshosting.com.​
    • Port: Set automatically based on SSL preference; adjust if needed.​
    • SSL: Enable or disable based on your security preference; this will adjust the port accordingly.​
    • Username: Your assigned username.​
    • Password: Your assigned password.​
    • Connections: Enter the allowed number of connections; if unsure, start with 20.​
    • Priority: Assign a priority level (0 for highest, 99 for lowest); it's advisable to set unlimited services at a higher priority and block accounts lower.​
    • Retention Time: Specify a duration to filter out posts older than the set date, aiding in faster searches for recent posts. Leaving this blank allows for maximum article retention.​
    • Timeout: Set the time allowed for error recovery; leaving this blank or setting it to 60 is recommended.​
    • Certificate Verification: Keep this on "Strict" for enhanced security; switch to "Minimal" only if issues arise (applicable when SSL is enabled).​
    • SSL Ciphers: Leave this field blank.​
    • Optional: Keep this option unchecked.​
    • Send Group: Keep this option unchecked.​
    • Server Description: Assign a simple name for easy identification.​
    • Personal Notes: Use this space for any account-related notes.​
  2. Test and Save: Click "Test Server" to ensure a successful connection. If errors occur, verify your entries or contact our Support Team for assistance. Once successful, click "Save Changes" and ensure the server is marked as "Enabled".

 

 

 

Your SABnzbd client is now configured to work with your Usenet service.​
